It was as recent as the end of May when the Samsung Galaxy S3 was launched, and now just three months later (at the time of writing), the first Samsung Galaxy S4 release date “leak” has reared its ugly head.

The leak was reported by professional released date rumour spreader, The Korea Times, who claims to have been speaking to ‘company officials and local parts suppliers’. The Korea Times reported that an official from the firm who asked not to be identified said, “Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at early next year’s mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona”.

Now, we don’t want to accuse The Korean Times of making up a load of twaddle, but the idea of Samsung launching the Galaxy S4 at Mobile World Congress 2013 seems to be hard to believe.

The early rumours surrounding the S3, were saying the same thing last year, but instead Samsung decided to keep the device away from MWC and let the hype grow for a further three months before finally launching its flagship smartphone the, Galaxy S4. So when you consider that the success the Korean tech giant had with launching the S3 at its own dedicated event at Earls Court in May, the thought of the Samsung Galaxy S4’s release date and launch happening at the crowded MWC event starts to look like a pretty far-fetched rumour.

Update: Samsung Electronics’ official Korean twitter page @samsungtomorrow was quick to deny this rumour. We ran the tweet (that was originally posted in Korean) through an online translator, and even though the translation didn’t make complete sense, it’s pretty clear that Samsung is denying the MWC Galaxy S4 release date rumour. Here’s the direct translation “A press release from some media [brings] ‘ Galaxy S successor model coming soon ‘ guess ? simple rumours, is not true”.

Samsung Galaxy S4 specs

Leaks and rumours for the Samsung Galaxy S4 are pretty thin on the ground right now. However, PC Advisor’s Chris Martin reports that some possible specs for the S4 include “Samsung Exynos processor and a 5in screen, up from 4.8in of the S3. It will also support LTE networks for 4G mobile broadband like the upcoming Galaxy S3 LTE. Android is likely to be the operating system of choice one again.”
